The Story Behind Rocket Works

Rocket Works came from a real business need.

You see, I am a maker and run a small 3D printing farm. I knew that in order to thrive in an increasingly crowded space, I needed to expand my range and increase the quality of what I was offering.

For me, this meant being creative (which is one of the things I truly love about being a maker) and making my own unique models to print. But not just to print and stick in a box. I wanted to offer fully finished products, some in full colour, some with stickers and some with basic electronics.

But here’s the problem: as my range grew, so did the complexity.

I needed to keep track of more materials and remember which products used them. I also needed to remember what I needed to print for each item, how long it took, and track orders across several platforms.

This became increasingly difficult if the same item sold more than once, on more than one platform.

I needed to remember which parts I had made for each model and which order they belonged to. Sometimes this created serious problems. I could miss making a part but assume I had made it, only to find it was missing during packing. Or I’d make the same component more times than needed.

And for products I only make once a year, I would sometimes forget where I purchased a particular material or which steps were required to assemble them. The problems just kept mounting.

But it’s these problems Rocket Works solves.

And it’s not just for 3D print farm owners — it’s for all makers. Whether you make your own delicately scented candles, laser etch unique items for birthdays, hand sew custom clothing, or make bespoke and beautiful pieces of jewellery, Rocket Works can help.

In short, Rocket Works can help makers who sell online.

Rocket Works can help you:

  • Know where you are with every order, from making the first part to packing and dispatch.
  • Bring your eBay and Etsy orders together, so you can see your work in one place.
  • Remember how you make each product, including the different steps needed for its variations.
  • Keep track of what you’ve already made and what still needs doing, even when the same item appears in several orders.
  • Remember which supplies each product needs, exactly when you need them, and where to buy more.
  • Work on similar tasks together across orders, without losing track of which items they belong to.
  • Check every item as you pack it, helping you catch missing parts before the parcel leaves.
  • Spend less time trying to keep everything in your head and more time doing what you love: making.

I now use Rocket Works every day to help me run my maker business, and I truly feel lost without it. It’s helped reduce the stress I feel on busy days, and I can switch off for the weekend knowing Rocket Works will remember exactly what I need to finish when I start again on Monday – even if another batch of orders comes in over the weekend.

My hope is that it helps other makers too, giving us a little less to juggle and remember, and a little more time to create.
